Bulkhead

Loud, and not one dB over.

Push a mix hard and the peaks go over, and the ones between the samples clip the moment the file becomes an MP3 or an AAC. Bulkhead catches every peak, including those, and holds them under the ceiling you set, with a meter that shows exactly how hard it is working.

What it does

Bulkhead in 5 parts.

Holds the ceiling

Peaks are found at 16 times the sample rate, so the true peak, not just the sample peak, stays under CEILING. Set it to -1 dBTP and it stays there.

Push with INPUT

INPUT adds up to 24 dB in front of the limiter. Turn it up until the meter moves, and the master gets louder without going over.

Release, by hand or by ear

RELEASE runs from 20 ms to a second. AUTO picks it from how hard the limiter is working, so it lets go quickly on light work and slowly on heavy.

Meters that matter

A gain-reduction bar, the short-term loudness of what comes out (LUFS) and the true peak. You see the work and the result.

Honest latency

Bulkhead looks ahead, so it delays the audio slightly and tells your host exactly how much, which keeps everything lined up.

  • Measured. At +12 dB of drive into loud tones and noise, the true peak stays at the -1 dBTP ceiling, checked against a 32x reference. A 15 kHz tone at +9 dB holds -3 dBTP.
  • Transparent below the ceiling. A quiet sine comes out the same, delayed, with the error more than 70 dB down.
  • From Vantage. It is the same limiter engine as the one inside our mastering plugin.
  • Licensed, no trial. It stays silent until you enter the license key from your purchase email. 14-day refunds, no questions asked.
  • Not part of the Nu series. It is a separate release with its own look.

Mac: macOS 12+, Apple Silicon and Intel, AU and VST3. Windows: 10 and 11, 64-bit, VST3.
