An Ozone and LANDR alternative. With the receipts.
Vantage is a mastering plugin that listens to your mix, sets its chain and writes down what it did. This page compares it with iZotope Ozone and LANDR as fairly as we can, including where each of them is the better choice.
The short version
| Vantage | iZotope Ozone 12 | LANDR Mastering | |
|---|---|---|---|
| What it is | A plugin: AU and VST3 on Mac, VST3 on Windows | A plugin suite in four editions: Elements, Standard, Advanced and Music Production Suite | An online service: upload a track, get a master back |
| How it decides | Fixed rules applied to measurements of your audio, no machine learning | Its Master Assistant is AI-powered, in every edition | AI mastering, per the reviews we read |
| Price model | One price, a license key that is yours, free updates through every 1.x release. The current price is on the Vantage page | One purchase per edition. At the Ozone 12 launch, Sound On Sound listed Standard at $219 and Advanced at $499 | Per master or by subscription. Sources disagree on current prices, so check LANDR |
| Pro Tools (AAX) | No AAX | Advanced lists AAX | Not a plugin, so not applicable |
| Your audio leaves your computer | No, it runs in your DAW and the license is checked offline | Not for the plugin itself | Yes, you upload the track |
Where Ozone is the better choice
If you work in Pro Tools and need AAX, Ozone Advanced lists it and Vantage does not. If you want a full suite, Ozone has more modules than Vantage’s six: reviews describe 14 tools in Standard and 20 in Advanced. And if you want an AI-driven starting point, Ozone’s Master Assistant is built for that. Vantage is a focused tool, not a suite.
Where LANDR is the better choice
If you do not want to install anything, or you are on a computer without your DAW, LANDR works from a finished bounce. Reviews say you can preview a master before paying, though they disagree on how long the preview is, so check LANDR itself.
Where Vantage fits
You press LISTEN on the loudest part of your mix and Vantage measures up to 30 seconds of it. It sets six modules (clean, tone, glue, color, width and loudness), then writes every move out in plain English, so you can agree with a move or undo it. COMPARE plays your original at the master’s loudness, so you hear what changed and not just what got louder. It lands a streaming (-14 LUFS), Apple Music (-16) or loud (-9) target, and in our test suite the peaks stay at -1.05 dBTP or lower at every target.
It uses no machine learning, runs offline, and costs one price instead of a subscription. The limits: it is stereo only, it has no AAX, and it makes a better master of your mix, it does not fix a bad recording.
How to compare any mastering tool fairly
Match the loudness before you judge. Listeners tend to prefer the louder of two versions even when nothing else changed, so a louder result can win without being better. Set both versions to the same loudness, then listen for what actually changed: a tighter low end, calmer harshness, anything duller. Our free Parity plugin does the matching in any DAW.
About the competitor details

Questions
Is Vantage a replacement for Ozone?
Not for everyone. If you need AAX or a larger suite, Ozone has more. Vantage is a focused tool with six modules, built to show its work. Many people will want one or the other, and some will use both.
Does Vantage use AI or machine learning?
No. It measures your audio and applies fixed rules, which is why it can tell you exactly what it did.
How does the price compare?
Vantage is one price with a license key that is yours and free updates through every 1.x release. Ozone is a purchase per edition, and LANDR charges per master or by subscription. Check the current prices on each site.
Can I try Vantage first?
Yes. Every Dead Signal plugin has a 14-day trial, and Vantage also has a 14-day refund.
Does Vantage work in Pro Tools?
Not today. Vantage ships as AU and VST3 on Mac and VST3 on Windows, with no AAX.
What does it run on?
Mac: macOS 12 or newer, Apple Silicon and Intel. Windows: 10 and 11, 64-bit. The Mac installers are signed and notarized by Apple.
More free plugins are on the free plugins page, and the Mix Notes show these tools at work.
Next step: when free is not enough
- Bulkhead: a true-peak limiter with a loudness readout, $19.
- Sickle: a de-esser that cuts the S and keeps the voice, $15.
- Ashfall: pads, drones and swells that land on the drop, $49.
